Update (August 2019): Crawfurd Medical has ended its $5 testosterone screen test promotion. However I still recommend going to them for blood tests as they have a quick 2-day turnaround time, no consultation charges and convenient email follow-up.

Testosterone is literally the lifeblood of men. When there’s not enough testosterone coursing through our bloodstream, we experience miserable side effects like chronic fatigue and a loss of motivational and sexual drive.
I know this as I have experienced low testosterone firsthand.
Years ago I experimented with a bodybuilding prohormone called 1-Andro and although it helped me put on 2kg of muscle in five weeks, it also suppressed my natural T levels. I sure did not feel like myself for many weeks after.
These days I tell EVERY single guy friend who comes to me with symptoms of fatigue and depression to go for a testosterone check. Next to mineral deficiencies or disease, low T is probably the largest predictor of malaise in men.
How Much Does A Testosterone Test in Singapore Usually Cost? (Hint: Too Much)
First of all, testosterone tests are usually NOT covered under insurance. This is a big economic mistake because low T directly worsens worker productivity AND it is very underdiagnosed.
Most GP clinics charge $33 for a testosterone test and $10 for the phlebotomy (i.e. blood drawing) service. Then they outsource the lab testing to an independent third party – usually Quest Laboratories.
This is in addition to the $20+ consultation fee for the doctor to meet you, and another $20+ on the next visit to discuss the results.
Adding it all up, it costs $83 for a testosterone test in Singapore. And that’s a conservative estimate because some clinics charge way more for consultation. Clearly, that’s a problem.
My $5 Testosterone Screening Test with Crawfurd Medical @ Suntec
I was searching online when I first came across Crawfurd Medical’s Testosterone Screen Test at $5 Nett. I emailed them to ask for details and I was very, very pleased with their response.
- They state a quick turnaround time of 3-5 days (I got mine in 2 days)
- The blood test can be done WITHOUT a doctor consultation – no hidden costs!
- Results are sent via email so there’s no need to take a second trip down
I made an appointment for the next day over email, but they welcome walk-ins as well. Note that the waiting time might be longer for walk-ins.
When I was called for the blood draw, the nurse was very kind and sat me down on a chair. She wrapped a band over my arm, told me to squeeze a stress ball and prepared me for the needle insertion. It was no more painful than a normal ant bite.
True to their word, I then paid $5 at the counter. I was in and out in 15 minutes.
Note: I found out from the receptionist that the $5 screen is for first-time customers only. Nonetheless, I will still return because of the no-consultation option AND the convenient email followup.
My Testosterone Results… ***Cue Drumroll***
Two days later, I got my results in the morning. Note that I have converted the units into ng/dL for easier interpretation and explanation:
- Reference Range: 164-753ng/dL
- My Result: 840ng/dL
The reference range is where 95% of lab results fall within… but it is NOT an accurate picture of normal levels. This is because most people who take testosterone tests in the first place are older men with declining T levels.
For most men who have no preexisting conditions:
- 700-1100ng/dL is ideal
- 500-700ng/dL is acceptable
- 300-500ng/dL requires nutrition and lifestyle intervention
- <300ng/dL is a symptom of low testosterone and may warrant testosterone replacement therapy (Healthline, 2019)
Fortunately, I fall into the ideal range – this may be partly because I have been supplementing with Inspired GREENS which contains Ashwagandha, a herb that increases T and decreases cortisol.
Action Steps for Men (Girlfriends or Wives may facilitate!)
- Visit Crawfurd Medical and book an appointment over the phone or email
- Head down to Suntec and get your testosterone screen test for $5
- Receive your results within 3-5 days (more likely 2 days)
- Determine whether low testosterone is a problem, take steps to increase T if needed
- Email me at firstname.lastname@example.org if you need any help 🙂
No matter what the age, EVERY man should get his testosterone checked because there has been a huge generational decline in male testosterone levels (Endocrine Today, 2017)
Chances are, you are literally not the man your father was.
Great topic for another time!
